Abstract

Impetus BASIC is made from the most popular components of IMPETUS Afea Solver.

At the heart is the FE computational module. This module lets you enter the world of a unique higher-order finite element technology. It’s a world fully based on solid elements. These elements are tough – and are made to deform – a lot.

Impetus BASIC utilizes the latest GPU hardware for high computational speed (NVIDIA). It lets you make advanced computations using a workstation fitted with dedicated GPUs. Impetus BASIC runs under Windows.

Additional system components include a powerful user interface with assembly mode for easy model set-up, editor for input file control, job manager and post-processing functionality. You have access to the latest documentation from version control, based on our verification and validation database.

Impetus BASIC has general material models that cover most classes, from ductile steel to brittle concrete. You will appreciate the power of parameterization and the advanced built-in functional capabilities of IMPETUS software.

If your process is well defined, we can help you be super-efficient. Add our modelling service. Let us create a library with pre-calibrated materials according to your needs. We can help you set up automatic report generation for your simulation projects.

Computational modules

Finite element module

The FE module is a non-linear explicit finite element code, primarily developed to predict large deformations of structures. You start out with the three basic linear element topologies, hexa-, penta- and tetrahedrons. This is all you need. IMPETUS software converts them into IMPETUS higher order elements for you.

Once you have established confidence in the IMPETUS element technology, your next step is to explore further. You will discover a robust contact algorithm, appreciating the smooth surface enabled by higher order elements and generating a wonderful contact pressure distribution. You will see general node splitting functionality for crack propagation and fragmentation analysis allowing you to conserve mass.

The module has a general materials library that covers most solid material types, such as metals (isotropic and anisotropic), rubber, ceramics, fiber composites, foams and soil.

The FE module utilizes the latest GPU hardware for high computational speed (NVIDIA). Version control is always made on both CPU and GPU versions of the code to ensure consistency.

The FE module does all computations in double precision.
